BlackBerry Unveils the Passport and the Classic

A couple of days ago, BlackBerry unveiled two new devices called the Passport and the Classic, respectively.

BlackBerry unveils Passport and Classic phones

New BlackBerry smartphones

The BlackBerry Passport comes with a square 4.5in screen, a resolution of 1,440 x 1,440 pixels and a pixel density of 453ppi. Beneath the screen is a three-row QWERTY keyboard. It’s a pretty wide (and odd-looking) device – the screen alone measures 81 mm. Not much is known about the phone yet, but it is expected to come with a Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel rear camera. The company is also rumoured to be working on the next version of its OS – BlackBerry 10.3.

The BlackBerry Classic is the successor to the Q-line and comes with a QWERTY keyboard, as well. It will have a 3.5in screen, also square, but we’ve yet to hear anything about its resolution. The Classic should feature the old, familiar optical trackpad.

BlackBerry’s CEO, John Chen, proudly showcased these two devices and said that the majority of the new BlackBerry phones will have QWERTY keyboards.

The Passport is expected to launch is September, while the Classic will most likely arrive in November.
